Mumbai Marathon 2017 – Dream Run with Vaastav Foundation

Vaastav Foundation will participate in the Dream Run (6km walk) category of the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2017.

The event is scheduled for the 3rd Sunday of January i.e. 15th January 2017.

Numerous enthusiastic participants have already enrolled themselves to walk for Men’s Rights at the marathon.

The Cause:

During any social discourse, ‘human rights’ as a term is not usually associated with men. This ignorance becomes the root cause of most issues men face, their grievances remaining unaddressed and this primarily becomes the need for ‘men’s rights’.

By participating in Mumbai Marathon’s Dream Run category, which has become a notable platform for the world to highlight various social concerns, Vaastav Foundation will attempt to create awareness about men’s rights, appreciate & encourage gender neutrality in all its forms and highlight issues faced by men due to gender bias. It will also raise voice to counter the prevailing misandry within the society and gender discrimination including the disparity in provisions provided to people on the basis of gender.

History:

Vaastav Foundation has been participating in Mumbai Marathon for many years in a row.

In 2016, activists from Vaastav Foundation had walked dressed in ATMs and ‘criminals’ depicting how men are either treated as a source of money (or valuable assets) or treated as criminals (blamed wrongly or accused falsely in criminal matters or simply branded unsuccessful, usually mocked down, often disrespected) if they aren’t able to live up to others’ expectations. Theme for this year:

This year too, Vaastav Foundation will seek a creative, innovative and an artistic approach to highlight the social issues at the international forum. 

Participation:

Vaastav Foundation will appreciate if Mumbaikars choose to cheer-up the dream run participants at the event or if they wish to contribute in the developments leading to Vaastav Foundation’s successful participation.  Participation can also be in the form of creating or help creating prop(s) to be used by Vaastav Foundation’s successful participation. Event Details (as per the official organizer’s website):

Date: 15th Jan 2017, Sunday

Start Time & Location: 9:00 am from C.S.T
Finish Time & Location: 10:30 am opp. Metro BIG Cinemas.

Vaastav Foundation participants will assemble and reach the venue two hours prior to the start time to ensure formalities are completed on time.

Registrations are already full. People opting to cheer the participants can assemble at Fort, Mumbai at around 8am.

People willing to participate in making props or contribute with other art-forms can contact Vaastav Foundation anytime upto the day of participation.
