Event 2: DHARNA (or a Peaceful Protest)
Venue: Azad Maidan, opp CST station, Mumbai
DATE & TIME: 18th June 2016, 10 am to 6 pm
OBJECTIVE: Child’s Rights, Father’s Rights, Shared Parenting Plan
WHY THIS EVENT?:
Fathers play an unparalleled, fundamental role in a successful upbringing, growth of a child.
A child too, for a wholesome development, needs love, care, support, attention, encouragement, and presence of both parents, including that of his biological father.
However, it is generally seen in cases involving disputes between spouses that the child custody is usually denied to the biological father.
In many instances a simple access to the child isn’t provided to the fathers; visitation orders from courts are ignored and not followed with some believable excuse or the other.
‘Shared Parenting Guidelines’ aren’t followed.
Frivolous allegations under the gravely misused Domestic Violence Act, anti-dowry law or other criminal offences, lodged falsely simply to deny access to non-custodial fathers increase their plight further.
Most importantly, the fact that a child needs rearing by fathers at every age is also often ignored or not given much importance. It also completely violates the basic fundamental rights of child to see, meet and stay with their fathers, leading to a very unhealthy development & growth of the child, which has grave implications on the child’s future.
The child is most often used as a pawn by the mothers as a bargaining tool for higher maintenance.
Fathers also feel undone and cheated for life and strongly feeling that they are reduced to being ‘sperm donors’.
BY WHOM?:
Many Child Rights Activists, Non-Custodial Fathers and Men’s Rights Activists from Mumbai, Maharashtra and all over India are coming together on a day before Father’s Day, i.e. on 18th June 2016 from 10am to 6pm, under the banner of “Vaastav Foundation” to stage a peaceful “Dharna” and undertake a “Signature Campaign” in support of the ‘Shared Parenting Plan’ and increase awareness on Child’s Rights and Father’s Rights.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?:
This event is open to general public.
